Spays and Neuter Surgery
Our veterinarian can perform spay and neuter surgeries on dogs, cats, and most exotic animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, sugar gliders, etc.).
We recommend spaying and neutering dogs and cats at 6 months of age. Having this surgery can prevent hormonal behavior and some cancers, and of course, pregnancy in females.
Your pet will be admitted in the morning and be discharged in the afternoon at a time determined on the day of the procedure. We book your pet’s discharge based on their recovery. Each pet reacts differently – while some may sleep and take longer to wake up, others may be awake sooner. It may take between 24 – 48 hours for your pet to fully recover from the effects of the anesthesia but we want to make sure they are alert and able to walk before going home. When booking your pet’s spay or neuter surgery, please keep in mind that they will be wearing a cone for at least 10 days.

Sometimes, the veterinarian may find additional treatments that are needed but we will always communicate with you as to what treatments are recommended and their cost before proceeding.
- Safe Surgery Protocols We take every measure to ensure your pet has a safe and smooth anesthetic experience. These include:
- Preanesthetic Bloodwork : This bloodwork assesses the ability of your pet’s major organs to metabolize the anesthetic medication and assists the veterinarian develop the safest anesthetic protocol for your pet.
- ECG Monitoring: We also offer ECG monitoring to assess your pet’s heart function.
- Intravenous fluids: Every surgical patient has an intravenous catheter placed and receives essential fluids. This allows us to inject medication directly into the bloodstream throughout the procedure and helps regulate your pet’s body temperature, blood pressure, and hydration, as well as help flush the anesthetic medication through your pet’s system
- Pain Management: Your pet will receive pain medication prior to the surgery to give your pet a ‘head start’ on pain management. We monitor your pet for any signs of pain throughout all stages of surgery and will administer pain medication if needed.

- Comfortable Recovery : Your pet’s comfort is our priority! Pain medication will be sent home to keep him comfortable and pain-free during his recovery. Your pet may have to wear a cone in order to prevent him from licking or scratching the incision area, which could lead to re-opening of the incision and/or infection.
